2333
Beta 2 of Mesa 3.1 has been make available at
ftp://ftp.mesa3d.org/mesa/beta/
.
2334 If you are into the quake scene, you may want to try this out, as it contains some
2335 optimizations specifically in the Q3A rendering path.

2342
May 1999 - John Carmack of id Software, Inc. has made a donation of
2343 US$10,000 to the Mesa project to support its continuing development.
2344 Mesa is a free implementation of the OpenGL 3D graphics library and id's
2345 newest game, Quake 3 Arena, will use Mesa as the 3D renderer on Linux.
2346
2347 The donation will go to Keith Whitwell, who has been optimizing Mesa to
2348 improve performance on 3d hardware. Thanks to Keith's work, many
2349 applications using Mesa 3.1 will see a dramatic performance increase
2350 over Mesa 3.0. The donation will allow Keith to continue working on
2351 Mesa full time for some time to come.
