Refactor tree-loop-distribution.c for thread safety
This patch refactors tree-loop-distribution.c for thread safety without
use of C11 __thread feature. All global variables were moved to
`class loop_distribution` which is initialized at ::execute time.

Add more C2x attributes tests.
This patch adds more tests of C2x attributes, where I found cases that
were handled correctly by my patches but missing from the original
tests. Tests are added for -std=c11 -pedantic handling of C2x
attribute syntax and corresponding -Wc11-c2x-compat handling; for
struct [[deprecated]]; and for the [[__fallthrough__]] spelling of
[[fallthrough]] in the case of valid fallthrough attributes.
Tested for x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.

PR c++/91962 - ICE with reference binding and qualification conversion.
When fixing c++/91889 (r276251) I was assuming that we couldn't have a ck_qual
under a ck_ref_bind, and I was introducing it in the patch and so this

in convert_like_real was supposed to handle it. But that assumption was wrong
as this test shows; here we have "(int *)f" where f is of type long int, and
we're converting it to "const int *const &", so we have both ck_ref_bind and
ck_qual. That means that the new STRIP_NOPS strips an expression it shouldn't
have, and that then breaks when creating a TARGET_EXPR. So we want to limit
the stripping to the new case only. This I do by checking need_temporary_p,
which will be 0 in the new case. Yes, we can set need_temporary_p when
binding a reference directly, but then we won't have a qualification
conversion. It is possible to have a bit-field, convert it to a pointer,
and then convert that pointer to a more-qualified pointer, but in that case
we're not dealing with an lvalue, so gl_kind is 0, so we won't enter this
block in reference_binding:

Add optabs for accelerating RAW and WAR alias checks
This patch adds optabs that check whether a read followed by a write
or a write followed by a read can be divided into interleaved byte
accesses without changing the dependencies between the bytes.
This is one of the uses of the SVE2 WHILERW and WHILEWR instructions.
(The instructions can also be used to limit the VF at runtime,
but that's future work.)

Add an empty constructor shortcut to build_vector_from_ctor
Empty vector constructors are equivalent to zero vectors. If we handle
that case directly, we can support it for variable-length vectors and
can hopefully make things more efficient for fixed-length vectors.
This is needed by a later C++ patch.

Two RTL CC tweaks for SVE pmore/plast conditions
SVE has two composite conditions:
pmore == at least one bit set && last bit clear
plast == no bits set || last bit set
So in general we generate them from:
A: CC = test bits
B: reg1 = first condition
C: CC = test bits
D: reg2 = second condition
E: result = (reg1 op reg2) where op is || or &&
To fold all this into a single test, we need to be able to remove
the redundant C (the cse.c patch) and then fold B, D and E down to
a single condition (the simplify-rtx.c patch).
The underlying conditions are unsigned, so the simplify-rtx.c part needs
to support both unsigned comparisons and AND. However, to avoid opening
the can of worms that is ANDing FP comparisons for unordered inputs,
I've restricted the new AND handling to cases in which NaNs can be
ignored. I think this is still a strict extension of what we have now,
it just doesn't go as far as it could. Going further would need an
entirely different set of testcases so I think would make more sense
as separate work.

Handle VIEW_CONVERT_EXPR for variable-length vectors
This patch handles VIEW_CONVERT_EXPRs of variable-length VECTOR_CSTs
by adding tree-level versions of native_decode_vector_rtx and
simplify_const_vector_subreg. It uses the same code for fixed-length
vectors, both to get more coverage and because operating directly on
the compressed encoding should be more efficient for longer vectors
with a regular pattern.
The structure and comments are very similar between the tree and
rtx routines.

Optimise WAR and WAW alias checks
For:
void
f1 (int *x, int *y)

we checked at runtime whether one vector at x would overlap one vector
at y. But in cases like this, the vector code would handle x <= y just
fine, since any write to address A still happens after any read from
address A. The only problem is if x is ahead of y by less than a
vector.
The same is true for two writes:

y[i] = 2;

if y <= x then a vector write at y after a vector write at x would
have the same net effect as the original scalar writes.
This patch optimises the alias checks for these two cases. E.g.,
before the patch, f1 used:
add x2, x0, 15
sub x2, x2, x1
cmp x2, 30
bls .L2
whereas after the patch it uses:
add x2, x1, 4
sub x2, x0, x2
cmp x2, 8
bls .L2
Read-after-write cases like:

can cope with x == y, but otherwise don't allow overlap in either
direction. Since checking for x == y at runtime would require extra
code, we're probably better off sticking with the current overlap test.
An overlap test is also needed if the scalar or vector accesses covered
by the alias check are mixed together, rather than all statements for
the second access following all statements for the first access.
The new code for gcc.target/aarch64/sve/var_strict_[135].c is slightly
better than before.

For SVE it's useful to allow the same thing for memory constraints.
The particular use case is LD1RQ, which is an SVE instruction that
addresses Advanced SIMD vector modes and that accepts some addresses
that normal Advanced SIMD moves don't.
Normally we require every memory to satisfy at least "m", which is
defined to be a memory "with any kind of address that the machine
supports in general". However, LD1RQ is very much special-purpose:
it doesn't really have any relation to normal operations on these
modes. Adding its addressing modes to "m" would lead to bad Advanced
SIMD optimisation decisions in passes like ivopts. LD1RQ therefore
has a memory constraint that accepts things "m" doesn't.

Remove vestiges of MODIFY_JNI_METHOD_CALL
I happened to notice that MODIFY_JNI_METHOD_CALL was defined in
cygming.h and documented in tm.texi. However, because it was only
needed for gcj, it is obsolete. This patch removes the vestiges.
Tested by grep, and rebuilding the documentation.

libstdc++: Fix std::jthread bugs
The std::jthread::get_id() function was missing a return statement.
The is_invocable check needs to be done using decayed types, as they'll
be forwarded to std::invoke as rvalues.
Also reduce header dependencies for the <thread> header. We don't need
to include <functional> for std::jthread because <bits/invoke.h> is
already included, which defines std::__invoke. We can also remove
<bits/functexcept.h> which isn't used at all. Finally, when
_GLIBCXX_HAS_GTHREADS is not defined there's no point including any
other headers, since we're not going to define anything in <thread>
anyway.

musl: Don't use gthr weak refs in libgcc PR91737
The gthr weak reference based single thread detection is unsafe with
static linking and in case of dynamic linking it's ineffective on musl
since pthread symbols are defined in libc.so.
(Ideally this should be fixed for all targets, since glibc plans to move
libpthread.so into libc.so too and users want to static link to pthread
without --whole-archive: PR87189.)
For now we have to explicitly opt out from the broken behaviour in the
config machinery of each target lib and libgcc was previously missed.

[mid-end][__RTL] Clean state despite unspecified __RTL startwith passes
Hi there,
When compiling an __RTL function that has an unspecified "startwith"
pass we currently don't run the cleanup pass, this means that we ICE on
the next function (if it's a basic function).
This change ensures that the clean_state pass is run even if the
startwith pass is unspecified.
We also ensure the name of the startwith pass is always freed correctly.
As an example, before this change the following code would ICE when compiling
the function `foo_a`.
When compiled with

libstdc++: Optimize std::jthread construction
This change avoids storing a copy of a stop_token object that isn't
needed and won't be passed to the callable object. This slightly reduces
memory usage when the callable doesn't use a stop_token. It also removes
indirection in the invocation of the callable in the new thread, as
there is no lambda and no additional calls to std::invoke.
It also adds some missing [[nodiscard]] attributes, and the non-member
swap overload for std::jthread.
* include/std/thread (jthread::jthread()): Use nostopstate constant.
(jthread::jthread(Callable&&, Args&&...)): Use helper function to
create std::thread instead of indirection through a lambda. Use

[AArch64] Robustify aarch64_wrffr
This patch uses distinct values for the FFR and FFRT outputs of
aarch64_wrffr, so that a following aarch64_copy_ffr_to_ffrt has
an effect. This is needed to avoid regressions with later patches.
The block comment at the head of the file already described
the pattern this way, and there was already an unspec for it.

Use a single comparison for index-based alias checks
This patch rewrites the index-based alias checks to use conditions
of the form:

Dump the list of merged alias pairs
This patch dumps the final (merged) list of alias pairs. It also adds:
- WAW and RAW versions of vect-alias-check-8.c
- a "well-ordered" version of vect-alias-check-9.c (i.e. all reads
before any writes)
- a test with mixed steps in the same alias pair
I also tweaked the test value in vect-alias-check-9.c so that the
result was less likely to be accidentally correct if the alias
isn't honoured.

Record whether a dr_with_seg_len contains mixed steps
prune_runtime_alias_test_list can merge dr_with_seg_len_pair_ts that
have different steps for the first reference or different steps for the
second reference. This patch adds a flag to record that.
I don't know whether the change to create_intersect_range_checks_index
fixes anything in practice. It would have to be a corner case if so,
since at present we only merge two alias pairs if either the first or
the second references are identical and only the other references differ.
And the vectoriser uses VF-based segment lengths only if both references
in a pair have the same step. Either way, it still seems wrong to use
DR_STEP when it doesn't represent all checks that have been merged into
the pair.

Delay swapping data refs in prune_runtime_alias_test_list
prune_runtime_alias_test_list swapped dr_as between two dr_with_seg_len
pairs before finally deciding whether to merge them. Bailing out later
would therefore leave the pairs in an incorrect state.
IMO a better fix would be to split this out into a subroutine that
produces a temporary dr_with_seg_len on success, rather than changing
an existing one in-place. It would then be easy to merge both the dr_as
and dr_bs if we wanted to, rather than requiring one of them to be equal.
But here I tried to do something that could be backported if necessary.

This patch adds support for "truncating" to a partial SVE vector from
either a full SVE vector or a wider partial vector. This truncation is
actually a no-op and so should have zero cost in the vector cost model.

[AArch64] Pattern-match SVE extending loads
This patch pattern-matches a partial SVE load followed by a sign or zero
extension into an extending load. (The partial load is already an
extending load; we just don't rely on the upper bits of the elements.)
Nothing yet uses the extra LDFF1 and LDNF1 combinations, but it seemed
more consistent to provide them, since I needed to update the pattern
to use a predicated extension anyway.

[AArch64] Add "FULL" to SVE mode iterator names
An upcoming patch will make more use of partial/unpacked SVE vectors.
We then need a distinction between mode iterators that include partial
modes and those that only include "full" modes. This patch prepares
for that by adding "FULL" to the names of iterators that only select
full modes. There should be no change in behaviour.

[AArch64] Enable VECT_COMPARE_COSTS by default for SVE
This patch enables VECT_COMPARE_COSTS by default for SVE, both so
that we can compare SVE against Advanced SIMD and so that (with future
patches) we can compare multiple SVE vectorisation approaches against
each other. It also adds a target-specific --param to control this.

Optionally pick the cheapest loop_vec_info
This patch adds a mode in which the vectoriser tries each available
base vector mode and picks the one with the lowest cost. The new
behaviour is selected by autovectorize_vector_modes.
The patch keeps the current behaviour of preferring a VF of
loop->simdlen over any larger or smaller VF, regardless of costs
or target preferences.

Extend can_duplicate_and_interleave_p to mixed-size vectors
This patch makes can_duplicate_and_interleave_p cope with mixtures of
vector sizes, by using queries based on get_vectype_for_scalar_type
instead of directly querying GET_MODE_SIZE (vinfo->vector_mode).
int_mode_for_size is now the first check we do for a candidate mode,
so it seemed better to restrict it to MAX_FIXED_MODE_SIZE. This avoids
unnecessary work and avoids trying to create scalar types that the
target might not support.

Apply maximum nunits for BB SLP
The BB vectoriser picked vector types in the same way as the loop
vectoriser: it picked a vector mode/size for the region and then
based all the vector types off that choice. This meant we could
end up trying to use vector types that had too many elements for
the group size.
The main part of this patch is therefore about passing the SLP
group size down to routines like get_vectype_for_scalar_type and
ensuring that each vector type in the SLP tree is chosen wrt the
group size. That part in itself is pretty easy and mechanical.
The main warts are:
(1) We normally pick a STMT_VINFO_VECTYPE for data references at an
early stage (vect_analyze_data_refs). However, nothing in the
BB vectoriser relied on this, or on the min_vf calculated from it.
I couldn't see anything other than vect_recog_bool_pattern that
tried to access the vector type before the SLP tree is built.
(2) It's possible for the same statement to be used in groups of
different sizes. Taking the group size into account meant that
we could try to pick different vector types for the same statement.
This problem should go away with the move to doing everything on
SLP trees, where presumably we would attach the vector type to the
SLP node rather than the stmt_vec_info. Until then, the patch just
uses a first-come, first-served approach.
(3) A similar problem exists for grouped data references, where
different statements in the same dataref group could be used
in SLP nodes that have different group sizes. The patch copes
with that by making sure that all vector types in a dataref
group remain consistent.
The patch means that:

Unfortunately it also means we start to vectorise
gcc.target/i386/pr84101.c for -m32. That seems like a target
cost issue though; see PR92265 for details.

Diagnose duplicate C2x standard attributes.
For each of the attributes currently included in C2x, it has a
constraint that the attribute shall appear at most once in each
attribute list (attribute-list being what appear between a single [[
and ]]).
This patch implements that check. As the corresponding check in the
C++ front end (cp_parser_check_std_attribute) makes violations into
errors, I made them into errors, with the same wording, for C as well.
There is an existing check in the case of the fallthrough attribute,
with a warning rather than an error, in attribute_fallthrough_p. That
is more general, as it also covers __attribute__ ((fallthrough)) and
the case of [[fallthrough]] [[fallthrough]] (multiple attribute-lists
in a single attribute-specifier-sequence), which is not a constraint
violation. To avoid some [[fallthrough, fallthrough]] being diagnosed
twice, the check I added avoids adding duplicate attributes to the
list.
Bootstrapped with no regressions on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.

Support C2x [[maybe_unused]] attribute.
This patch adds support for the C2x [[maybe_unused]] attribute, using
the same handler as for GNU __attribute__ ((unused)).
As with other such attribute support, I think turning certain warnings
into pedwarns for usage in cases where that is a constraint violation
can be addressed later as a bug fix, as can the C2x constraint for
various standard attributes that they do not appear more than once
inside a single [[]].
However, the warnings that appear in c2x-attr-maybe_unused-1.c (that
the attribute is ignored on member declarations) need to remain as
warnings not pedwarns, since C2x does permit the attribute there. (Or
they could be silenced, on the basis that GCC doesn't have warnings
for unused struct and union members so it's completely harmless that
it's ignoring an attribute that might do something useful with another
compiler that does have such warnings.)
Bootstrapped with no regressions on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.

Fix vector/scalar to vector/vector conversion (PR92515)
r278235 broke conversions of vector/scalar shifts into vector/vector
shifts on targets that only provide the latter. We need to record
whether a conversion is required in that case too.
Also, the old useless_type_conversion_p condition seemed unnecessarily
strong, since the shift amount can have a different signedness from
the shifted value and its vector type is never assumed to be identical
to vectype. The patch therefore uses tree_nop_conversion_p instead.

The documentation for __RTL tests (see "(gccint) RTL Tests" info node) has the
following snippet.

Since r264944 print_rtx_function prints column number information, which the
__RTL function parsing does not handle.
This patch handles column number information optionally, so pre-existing __RTL
functions still work, and the above documentation quote still holds.
Note: If people would prefer to require column information I could make a
slightly neater code and update existing tests.
I guess this would be OK since the intended use for __RTL functions is in these
testcases so there is no worry about other existing code.

[rs6000] Use VIEW_CONVERT_EXPR to reinterpret vectors (PR 92515)
The new tree-cfg.c checking in r278245 tripped on folds of
ALTIVEC_BUILTIN_VPERM_*, which were using gimple_convert
rather than VIEW_CONVERT_EXPR to reinterpret the contents
of a vector as a different type.
